The Tufts Center for the Evaluation of Value and Risk in Health has released a report entitled “Incentivizing Drug Development for Serious Mental Illness.” The report examines unmet medical need in this area, exploring why bio-pharmaceutical innovation for serious mental illness has lagged behind other therapeutic areas. It provides an overview of barriers to innovation for serious mental illness and suggests a wide array of policy solutions to address these barriers and help meet the urgent need for new treatments. Included among the many policy suggestions in the report is the establishment of a Neuroscience Center of Excellence at the FDA.
